‘Absolute fire’… Conor McGregor celebrates convincing UFC legend to end retirement for BKFC fight

Conor McGregor is thrilled with how one of BKFC’s biggest events is coming together.

On October 4, the promotion is heading to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey for BKFC 82.

The event is set to be headlined by Mike Perry taking on Jeremy Stephens in a matchup between two former UFC fighters.

With several other names also being in contention to face Perry before ‘Lil Heathen’ got the call, it appears that the promotion was looking to pull out all the stops for this card.

Another big name addition to the card earned praise from McGregor, as a legend that he could’ve faced in his UFC career has come out of retirement.

Conor McGregor praises Frankie Edgar’s signing to BKFC when giving his reaction

On August 18, Ariel Helwani reported that Frankie Edgar has ended his retirement to sign with BKFC.

‘The Answer’ last competed inside the Octagon in 2022, ending his legendary career with three consecutive knockout losses at bantamweight.

Helwani also stated that Edgar is expected to face former UFC bantamweight Jimmie Rivera pending approval from the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board.

While some fans are concerned about the former champion’s comeback, there’s no denying that he’s a big name for BKFC to go and get, especially for an event in New Jersey.

In a recent post, after celebrating the two world title fights that will top the card, Conor McGregor gave his reaction to Edgar signing with the promotion.

“And now, New Jersey’s own, biggest heart in the game, UFC World Champion, Frankie The Answer Edgar, makes his BKFC debut! Absolute FIRE!”

Conor McGregor once claimed that he offered to fight Frankie Edgar on short notice but the UFC turned it down

In 2018, Frankie Edgar was set to challenge Max Holloway for the featherweight title at UFC 222 until an injury forced the champion out of the bout.

Conor McGregor wrote in an Instagram post that he had offered to step in and face Edgar on short notice at the event having not fought since November of 2016.

Unfortunately, ‘The Notorious’ claimed that the UFC had shut down his pitch for a remarkable return, with Brian Ortega stepping in to replace Holloway instead.

Ortega went on to stop Edgar with a devastating knockout in the opening round which then earned him a shot at the champion next time out.
