‘I was unconscious’… Ben Askren walks back Patchy Mix prediction after learning about UFC debut disaster

Ben Askren is still catching up on the world of MMA after his recent stints in the hospital.

In June, the former fighter was placed into a coma as he battled a life-threatening case of pneumonia.

‘Funky’ later returned home to his family after getting a life-saving double lung transplant.

Ben Askren was recently readmitted to the hospital when doctors spotted an infection on his first checkup, but earlier this week, the 41-year-old announced he had ‘escaped again’ on social media.

Ben Askren discovers he missed Patchy Mix’s UFC debut

Ben Askren is now back home, sharing his thoughts on the latest goings on in MMA.

The former two-promotion world champion was quick to react to Patchy Mix being booked to face KSW bantamweight titleholder Jakub Wiklasz, who is set to make his debut in the big leagues at UFC 320 on October 4.

“Patchy is really good! Wouldn’t be surprised to see him make a title run in the 1st year,” Askren wrote in response to a report about Mix vs. Wiklasz.

However, he soon realized that fighting for the title in 2025 was unlikely after his disastrous UFC debut.

Askren was in a coma when Mario Bautista easily outpointed him over three rounds at UFC 316 in June.

“lol s— I was unconscious on June 7 and didn’t realize that fighters happened,” Askren tweeted after learning about Mix losing his first UFC fight.

He added: “That’s not a joke, it’s real life. I have no recollection of anything from May 28-July 2.”
