Dana White shuts down legend’s take that Khamzat Chimaev becoming UFC champion ‘would be a disaster’

Dana White has disagreed with the UFC legend who made a shock claim regarding Khamzat Chimaev becoming the middleweight champion.

This coming Saturday, Khamzat Chimaev finally fights for UFC gold when he takes on Dricus Du Plessis for the middleweight title in the UFC 319 main event.

Just a few days out from their fight, the two middleweights bumped into each other during their obligations and fans noticed that ‘Borz’ towered over the champion.

Despite that, Du Plessis claimed that maybe it was the angle the camera was filming at which made Chimaev look so much bigger than him.

Dana White shuts down UFC legend’s claim about Khamzat Chimaev

Over the past few years, the Chechen has proved slightly unreliable for the promotion, pulling out of several fights because of ongoing health issues.

However, he then made a change to his coaching team and seemingly fixed the issues that he was having.

Despite that, UFC legend Din Thomas claimed that Chimaev becoming a UFC champion would be a ‘disaster’ for the promotion considering his tendency to pull out of fights.

The claim came as quite a shock to fans considering the fact that Chimaev is one of the biggest stars in the sport and still dons an undefeated record.

And with that, UFC boss Dana White has shut down Thomas’ claim just a few days out from the main event in Chicago.

“I’m really excited for the fight, I mean, the main event should be unbelievable, and probably the Fight of the Night and we haven’t been in Chicago in a long time,” White said following Dana White’s Contender Series this past Tuesday.

“No (I’m not worried that Chimaev will be an inactive champion),” he answered.

Du Plessis claims Chimaev is doubting himself ahead of UFC 319

Going into what is a huge main event, there have been doubts surrounding Chimaev and whether his cardio will hold up in what could potentially be a five round fight.

However, ‘Stillknocks’ believes even Chimaev is doubting himself, stating that they both joined the UFC at the same time but he has far more experience against better opposition.
