UFC 319 star frustrated with the promotion over ‘politics’ keeping him from fighting at desired weight class

Ahead of his fight at UFC 319 this coming Saturday, Michael ‘Venom’ Page has expressed frustration with the promotion.

This coming weekend, UFC contender Michael ‘Venom’ Page returns to action when he takes on former middleweight title challenger Jared Cannonier at UFC 319 in Chicago.

‘MVP’s’ last fight came against the impressive Shara ‘Bullet’ Magomedov, and the British kickboxer went on to hand the Russian his first professional loss in what was his middleweight debut.

Not long after, Page announced that he would be sticking to 185lbs for the foreseeable future, however, that may not have been entirely his choice.

Page frustrated with ‘politics’ surrounding welterweight division

Following a loss to Ian Machado Garry at UFC 303 and subsequent move up in weight class, it seemed as though ‘MVP’ was done with fighting at 170lbs.

However, in a recent interview ahead of his fight against Cannonier, Page has admitted that his move up in weight class wasn’t entirely his plan, but because of the ‘politics’ surrounding the welterweight division, he was left with no choice.

“I actually wanted to go back down, I just find a lot of the guys at welterweight, it seems to be very political, nobody wants to fight, everyone wants to fight specific people. I’m not at that stage in my career, I want to fight everybody and anybody and not everyone is in the same place,” MVP told Fred Talks Fighting.

“Whereas at middleweight, people are a lot more keen and willing to, especially because I’m coming up, they already know that they have a slight advantage there but, I’m just ready to go against anyone,” he continued.

MVP provides prediction on Dricus Du Plessis vs Khamzat Chimaev

‘Venom’ Page’s fight comes on the undercard of the huge middleweight title fight between Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev.

And if the Brit can continue accumulating wins in the division, he may find himself fighting for the title at some point in the future.

However, ahead of the huge clash, ‘MVP’ has provided his prediction for the fight, saying: “The more you watch DDP, the more you have to respect the wins he gets, regardless of how he does it. He’s very tactical, very skilful, but looks messy.

“I actually got the privilege of watching Khamzat train, so I’ve seen his quality, and I would definitely put my money that way, but it’s just hard to bet against it.”
