Over his career, Terence Crawford has scored some incredible wins in the boxing ring, but few are better than his win over Shawn Porter.
On September 13, Terence Crawford takes on his toughest test to date when he clashes against Canelo Alvarez for the super middleweight title at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
The fight is set to be one of the biggest boxing fights in recent memory, not only because of both fighters’ standings in the sport, but because it will mark TKO Boxing‘s inaugural event.
Both fighters have scored some monumental wins throughout their respective careers, but one of Crawford’s career-best performances came when he clashed against former welterweight king, Shawn Porter.

Crawford retired Shawn Porter after pundits labeled it ‘a quantum leap in competition’
In 2020, ‘Bud’ Crawford scored a huge win over British boxing legend Kell Brook, punching him through the ropes in a comeback win.
Not long after, Crawford was ordered to defend his title against Porter, who at the time was the number two ranked WBO welterweight contender. Usually for mandated matches, there would be an 80-20 split, however, considering both fighters’ earnings from their previous three fights, a 60-40 purse split was agreed.
Porter was widely considered as Crawford’s biggest challenge at that point in his career, and the fight was even labeled ‘a quantum leap in competition’ by ESPN pundits.
The fight played out as an extremely closely contested bout and Porter started as the faster fighter of the two, putting pressure on ‘Bud’ while he tried to download his data.
In round three, Porter almost dropped Crawford with a huge right hook after a brief clash of heads between the fighters which caused cuts on both fighters.
Going into the 10th round, Crawford was down on some scorecards after some extremely close rounds. Despite that, the champion went on to knock Porter down with over two minutes left of the round.
Porter was knocked down again shortly after and his father stepped into the corner and threw the towel in.
Shawn Porter retired following his loss to Terence Crawford
Although there was worry for Crawford heading into the fight because of it being a huge step up in competition, immediately after the loss, Porter announced his retirement from the sport.
“I kind of expected that question because of fighting everyone, I am, I’m prepared to retire, I was prepared to announce my retirement tonight, win, lose or draw. I am, I’m announcing my retirement right now,” Porter said during the post fight press conference.
