UFC Vegas 109 may not have featured the same stakes as UFC 319, but there were still some big wins and losses.
August 9 saw another trip to the UFC Apex for one final stop before Chicago.
A middleweight contender confirming that he’ll be in attendance for UFC 319 capped off a statement performance in the main event.
With four Performance of the Night bonuses being handed out, there were also some highly impressive finishes in Las Vegas, with a slam KO attracting the attention of Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.
Now that the Apex door is closed, with several big events planned around the world in the coming weeks, it’s time to take a look back at the biggest winners and losers from last night’s action.

Winners: Anthony Hernandez
Unsurprisingly, the first place to start is with Anthony Hernandez who extended his winning streak to eight by beating Roman Doldize.
The 185-pound contender has been dubbed the ‘middleweight Merab’ in recent times and while there is certainly only one ‘Fluffy’, the comparisons rang true on Saturday night.
If Hernandez was going to have any hope of beating multiple other names to the next title shot, he needed a statement performance and that’s exactly what he delivered.
Most importantly, his suffocating display of relentless pressure was capped off with a violent submission finish, giving him one more highlight that will certainly help his case for facing the winner of the UFC 319 main event.
Losers: Gilbert Urbina
UFC Vegas 109 marked Gilbert Urbina’s return to the Octagon after a year and a half since his last outing, where he was stopped by Charles Radtke in the first round.
His first fight of 2025 couldn’t have started any better, as he dropped Uros Medic in the opening 10 seconds of the fight.
After not being able to follow up with anything too significant to try and get Medic out of there, his opponent started firing back, before landing a huge left hand that ended the fight just past the minute mark.
With Urbina’s UFC record now sitting at 1-3, with long periods of inactivity, his future in the promotion doesn’t look overly positive.
Winners: Elijah Smith
Right next to Anthony Hernandez, the biggest talking point from UFC Vegas 109 was Elijah Smith’s stunning slam knockout over Toshiomi Kazama.
At just 22 years old, ‘Swift’ is an exciting talent but after producing a highlight that is going to be seen by a lot of people, it takes his stock to a whole new level.
Losers: Angela Hill
On paper, a unanimous decision loss to Iasmin Lucindo isn’t much of a setback for Angela Hill, who has alternated wins and losses during her UFC career.
Lucindo still looks to be an exciting talent in this division so this could even be a defeat that ages gracefully in the coming years, but there is another worrying outcome.
With all 15 of her defeats coming inside the Octagon, Hill is now joint-third with two other fighters for having the most losses in UFC history.
Only four fighters – Jim Miller, Andrei Arlovski, Clay Guida, and Jeremy Stephens – have suffered more setbacks during their UFC career’s, and while they all achieved incredible longevity in careers, it’s not a record you’d want to be associated with.
Winners: Steve Erceg
There were big stakes for Steve Erceg ahead of UFC 309 and while he didn’t blow the roof off the Apex, he got the win that he so badly needed.
The former flyweight title challenger defeated Ode Osbourne via a unanimous decision and had to battle some adversity to do it after being hurt in the first round.
Erceg didn’t show that he’s ready to go right back in at the top of the division but as he told Bloody Elbow ahead of the fight, getting his hand raised by any means necessary was the goal.
Losers: Eryk Anders
Coming off of a win over Chris Weidman in December, Eryk Anders had the chance to put together three consecutive victories at UFC Vegas 109.
He was stopped in the first round following a ruthless spinning back elbow from Christian Leroy Duncan who recorded his biggest win inside the Octagon to date.
The worrying aspect for Anders is that he’s only ever been stopped by strikes on two occasions, with his other TKO defeat coming in his fight with Thiago Santos when he was unable to make it to his corner at the end of the third round.
His opponent was always capable of catching him with something he didn’t see coming but when you consider the levels of durability we’ve seen from Anders in the past, this was a big setback.
Winners: Joselyne Edwards
Joselyne Edwards produced another impressive finish at UFC Vegas 109, becoming the first opponent to KO the remarkably tough Priscila Cachoeira.
Her UFC career began with eight consecutive decisions, but all of a sudden, the 29-year-old has emerged as a dangerous finisher.
She is now tied for having the 4th longest active finish streak of any fighter on the roster.
