Dricus Du Plessis is widely regarded as one of the most unique fighters in UFC history because of his unorthodox fight style.
In just a few weeks time, Dricus Du Plessis looks to defend his middleweight title for the third time when he takes on Khamzat Chimaev in the UFC 319 main event in Chicago.
This is a matchup ‘Stillknocks’ has called for several times throughout his title reign, despite Chimaev being widely regarded as by far his toughest fight to date.
Ahead of their clash, Du Plessis has credited Israel Adesanya as his toughest test so far, with ‘Borz’ and ‘The Last Stylebender’ having completely different fight styles.

Du Plessis explains why ‘controversial’ fight style will be his superpower at UFC 319
Over his career, Du Plessis has faced several criticisms for his unique fight style and at one point, even Joe Rogan expressed concern regarding his fight style.
Despite that, with each outing, Du Plessis has continued to show clear improvements to his game and has proved that beating him is no easy task.
Former opponent of the South African, Robert Whittaker has claimed that when Du Plessis finally loses in the UFC, it will be because of a mistake he makes because of his unique style.
However, ahead of his clash against the Chechen, Du Plessis has explained why his ‘controversial’ fight style is his superpower, and will continue to be at UFC 319.
“I’m the underdog, I’ve been the underdog for most of my career, yet I am the champion. Odds don’t make fights and for me, I 100% believe this is the best opponent I have faced to date,” Du Plessis admitted in an interview with Fox Chicago.
“With my style that is a very controversial style in the UFC, unlike anything most people have ever seen, it’s only a benefit because it’s proven to be effective but then again, how do you prepare for that, how do you find somebody to mimic that and at the end of the day, that’s my niche.
“It’s almost impossible to prepare for me because, where do you find somebody to mimic it?” Du Plessis continued.
Chimaev in a better training routine ahead of UFC 319
Since this title fight was announced, there have been fears among the fanbase that Chimaev would eventually pull out of the fight considering his track record.
Despite that, according to Arman Tsarukyan, who has been a big part of his training camp, he is taking training far more seriously since reuniting with his former coach and has a proper training regime.
Throughout his career in the UFC, Chimaev has been said to overtrain his body, which has led to health complications on several occasions.
