Alex Perez is out of his fight at UFC Vegas 109, although the disappointing withdrawal is something he is used to in his UFC career.
The #8 ranked Flyweight was due to take on Steve Erceg at UFC Vegas 109 in an undercard fight on the greatly changed card on August 2.
However, an injury saw Alex Perez pull out of the fight against Astroboy, which would have been his first bout in over a year since losing via injury TKO to Tatsuro Taira in June 2024.
This is not the first, second, or third fight cancellation Perez has had in recent years, as he is more than used to his fights changing, or being completely taken off the card, at short notice.

Alex Perez has had 14 fight cancellations in six years
It seems like Perez is cursed, as he continually has fights postponed, altered or cancelled on an alarmingly regular basis.
Since 2019, the UFC Flyweight has had 14 fights canceled in one form or another, owing to a variety of reasons not always down to him.
Six of the pullouts were due to Perez, with either injury or missing weight causing fights to be postponed or taken off the card completely.
Four of them were due to his opponent being injured, such as his two fights with Askar Askarov that were moved before eventually being outright cancelled, as well as four bouts with Matt Schnell, which were postponed.

UFC Vegas 109 (Aug 9, 2025) | Steve Erceg | Perez withdrew due to injury and the fight was canceled |
Three were because of fighters being moved around, such as at UFC 255 when Cody Garbrandt suffered an injury, so Perez was parachuted into a main event title fight against Deiveson Figueiredo instead of challenging Brandon Moreno on the undercard.
The most unlucky one, for which nobody is to blame, is Perez’s planned 2020 fight with Kai Kara‑France. That entire event, as well as many others, was cancelled due to the pandemic, a problem which persisted throughout the world and not just in the UFC.
Alex Perez has only fought eight times since this unlucky record began
With his incredibly bad luck with his fights being cancelled, it is no surprise how little time Perez has actually spent in the octagon in those disappointing six years.
He actually managed to fight Mark De La Rosa in the UFC in 2019, picking up a win over five rounds before two more wins in a row in 2020, sandwiched between the cancelled COVID fight.
However, the American fighter has only had five fights since then, and only one victory amid a glut of cancelled fights that rivals anyone else in UFC history.
His sole win came in August 2024, earning a Performance of the Night bonus by beating Matheus Nicolau with a devastating knockout blow.
That followed three tough losses, with his last fight in the UFC being his unfortunate injury loss to Taira in 2024.
With so many problems with injuries and missing weight, it may be time for Perez to look into whether his MMA career has gone as far as it can.
