One of the most divisive UFC fighters of all time, CM Punk, has provided his prediction for the upcoming blockbuster between Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev.
On August 16, Dricus Du Plessis will take on Khamzat Chimaev in the highly anticipated UFC 319 main event which has been a long time in the making.
It will mark the UFC‘s first event in the Windy City since 2019 when Henry Cejudo won the vacant bantamweight title in a controversial fight against Marlon Moraes.
And with that, it is set to be an incredible night, and one of Chicago’s most notable sports stars and former UFC fighter CM Punk has teased a potential appearance.
CM Punk reveals his UFC 319 prediction
CM Punk’s involvement in the premier promotion is remembered by fans for all of the wrong reasons having lost both of his outings, but he surprised Joe Rogan during the fight that was scratched from his record.
Despite his time in the sport having been a disaster, he was one of the biggest names to have ever competed under the UFC banner and with the UFC’s crossover with WWE, he is still a topic of conversation in the sport.
And with that, ahead of the UFC’s return to his hometown, he has teased a potential appearance while giving his prediction for the main event title fight.
“I’m very excited, I’m probably ultimately going to be very disappointed too because I don’t know if I can go to the show, I’ve got to look at my calendar,” Punk began to tell Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen on the recent episode of Good Guy/Bad Guy.
“That’s going to be a wild main event, man. That’s going to be (wild). It’s so hard to bet against Chimaev, you know, especially after what he did to (Robert) Whittaker but I think Dricus is really really smart, probably smarter than a lot of people give him credit for.
“He knows what his game plan is going to be, he knows Chimaev is gonna come and try to dive on an ankle right out of the gate so I’m sure he’s doing his preparation, that’s what’s going to make this so fascinating.
“I don’t know if I see this making five rounds and if it does, we’re probably gonna have two very tired fighters and it’ll look like Derrick Lewis vs (Francis) Ngannou,” Punk continued.
CM Punk teases potential UFC 319 appearance after finding out the date
After finding out the exact date for UFC 319, Punk realized that he may actually be able to attend the show, and he is hoping to enjoy the action with former champion, Belal Muhammad.
“Brother, I’m so busy, like it’s absolutely insane. I know we’re in Europe for a big chunk of August but I don’t think it’s until the last week of August so I’ve got to double check. Hopefully I’ll be there, I’m gonna sit next to my bud Belal,” Punk continued.
