Nate Diaz accused of ‘running scared’ after his manager was sent a contract for the ex-UFC star’s return fight

One of Nate Diaz’s former UFC opponents is awaiting a response after making a rematch offer.

Diaz, undoubtedly one of the top stars to have competed in the UFC, made his final Octagon appearance in 2022. After Khamzat Chimaev’s weight miss canceled their main event matchup, the Stockton star instead fought out his contract in a late-notice battle with Tony Ferguson at UFC 279.

The fourth-round guillotine choke marked a fitting farewell for the fan favorite, who has since gone on to share the boxing ring with Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal, losing to the former but beating the latter.

Now, though, Diaz has seemingly set his sights on a UFC comeback. He has focused on the symbolic BMF title, twice claiming that current champion Max Holloway has ‘his belt’ in recent weeks.

However, the fight offer on the table lies away from MMA’s leading promotion.

Josh Thomson claims he’s in talks with Nate Diaz’s agent for rematch outside UFC

The most vocal when it comes to fighting the ex-UFC star has been Josh Thomson, a former Strikeforce champion who is the only man to knock Diaz out.

Thomson called Diaz out earlier this year, pitching a rematch in either boxing or the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC). While the Stockton star has yet to address the callout publicly, it seems that talks are underway behind the scenes.

But according to ‘The Punk’, while contracts have been sent to Diaz’s team, the 40-year-old’s manager can’t actually get hold of him to discuss the offer.

“Nate, your manager has the contracts. He’s still waiting for you to sit down and talk to him. He can’t seem to track you down,” Thomson said. “You’ve been running scared for a little bit.

“We’ve sent you over some ideas and it seems like you keep trying to avoid the situation. So in terms of fighting me, we’ll find out, man.

“I don’t have anything against Nate…I think he’s great for this industry,” Thomson continued. “I would love to get this thing settled up.

“There’s been talk and conversations with his agent, my agent, that type of thing. So we’ll see.”

BKFC boss teased Nate Diaz signing after Josh Thomson’s callout

When it comes to Thomson’s desire to fight Diaz, it seems that at least one promotion would be willing to stage it.

BKFC’s David Feldman discussed signing Diaz while speaking to Bloody Elbow and other reporters at a press conference in June.

“I’ve talked to Nate a bunch of times,” Feldman said of the possibility of Diaz fighting Thomson in BKFC.

The BKFC founder did, however, point to one issue that the Stockton star would almost certainly come across in his promotion.

“Nate Diaz is a warrior, but he gets cut a lot,” Feldman said. “And that’s his fear of bare-knuckle, which is getting cut too much.”

The cut issue reared its head in Diaz’s BMF title fight against Masvidal in 2019, with a severe gash on the Californian’s face resulting in a doctor’s stoppage after round three.

With that in mind, it remains to be seen whether Diaz’s future lies in the rising bare-knuckle boxing organization — and if a rematch with Thomson could await him.
