Sean Strickland considering fighting outside of the UFC with a lengthy suspension looming

Sean Strickland is considering fighting outside of the UFC with his future in the premier promotion currently under review.

The former UFC middleweight champion hasn’t fought inside the Octagon since UFC 312 earlier this year when he took on Dricus Du Plessis in a middleweight title rematch, losing again on the judges’ scorecards.

Since then, Sean Strickland has been biding his time and calculating who he can make his return against as he looks to return to the win column and potentially the middleweight title picture.

And with that, Strickland recently received a callout by his former foe Israel Adesanya, but according to Adesanya, Strickland isn’t interested in fighting him and is instead targeting a fight against Belal Muhammad.

Strickland considering fighting outside of the UFC during suspension

Although Strickland hasn’t been active in the UFC since February, the controversial middleweight has continued to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Earlier this year, Strickland stormed the cage at a local MMA event in Las Vegas and punched a fighter who had just beaten his teammate.

And following the incident, it was revealed that it was under review by the Nevada State Athletic Commission as they were who were sanctioning the fight.

Not long after, Strickland’s teammate Chris Curtis revealed that they had both been slapped with a fine and that Strickland’s involvement in the incident was being reviewed further.

This week, it was revealed that Strickland has received a suspension extension from the NSAC and will remain suspended until a full disciplinary hearing or adjudication agreement is reached and that won’t happen until at least August.

And with that, Strickland has reacted to the news and is seemingly considering fighting outside of the UFC in an attempt to stay active.

“Yeah man, dark days indeed. Anyone wanna have an exhibition boxing match?” Strickland said in a reply to a fan, according to Happy Punch.

Sean Strickland previously called out Jake Paul

This isn’t the first time the former UFC middleweight champion has considered taking his skillset to the boxing world, as earlier this year, he launched an x-rated attack on Jake Paul, calling him out for a boxing fight.

Although the 34-year-old is seemingly interested in stepping into the ring, that is unlikely considering his contract with the UFC and the fact that his suspension covers any event sanctioned by the NSAC, including boxing events.
