Having debuted in the UFC in 2012, Max Holloway’s name is all over the promotion’s record books.
At UFC 318, Holloway earned his first win over Dustin Poirier, beating the man that welcomed him to the Octagon with a submission loss.
‘Blessed’ kept hold of the BMF title and rebounded from a difficult loss last time out at UFC 308 where he failed to recapture the featherweight belt.
Talk quickly turned to what will be next for Holloway after he played his part in giving ‘The Diamond’ an emotional last dance in New Orleans.
Though Holloway has set his sights on a rematch with Ilia Topuria, there is another former opponent that could be next for him.
Max Holloway ties Charles Oliveira’s record for having the second most wins in UFC history
Max Holloway revealed ahead of UFC 318 that a big source of motivation for him was avoiding going 0-3 in the two trilogies that have taken place in his UFC career.
His first win over Dustin Poirier meant that ‘Blessed’ now has 27 victories to his name, with 23 of them taking place under the UFC banner after he signed to the promotion at just 4-0.
Holloway’s successful BMF title defense has put him joint second for the most wins in UFC history with only one other active fighter having the same statistic attached to their career.
Both ‘Blessed’ and Charles Oliveira are four wins away from matching Jim Miller’s current record of 27, which he could extend in the near future following a loss earlier this year.
The two former champions faced off in August of 2015 where Holloway produced a win in his first UFC main event, stopping ‘Do Bronx’ in the first round after the Brazilian suffered an injury.
With Oliveira also coming off of a loss to Ilia Topuria, and being a viable contender for the BMF belt, now might be the perfect time to run this one back, especially if ‘El Matador’ is going to be preoccupied with other challengers.
Max Holloway continues to set an incredible high bar for striking stats in the UFC’s history books
As one of the sport’s greatest volume strikers of all time, Max Holloway already holds the record for having the most strikes landed in any bout (versus Calvin Kattar) and in any title bout (versus Brian Ortega).
Fighter with most strikes landed in any single UFC bout | Opponent | Total strikes |
Max Holloway | Calvin Kattar | 445 |
Max Holloway | Brian Ortega | 290 |
Rob Font | Marlon Vera | 271 |
Jared Cannonier | Marvin Vettori | 241 |
Nate Diaz | Donald Cerrone | 238 |
At UFC 318, he landed 198 significant strikes on Dustin Poirier, according to UFC stats, which is the most he has recorded in any of his last six outings.
It may be some distance away from his current records but it has also extended his lead for having the most significant and total strikes landed in UFC history.
He’s also closing in on being the UFC fighter with the most time inside the Octagon, ranking second behind Rafael dos Anjos, being roughly just 16 minutes behind the Brazilian at 8:27:43 in total.
