Ilia Topuria trolls Max Holloway following his BMF title defence at UFC 318

Max Holloway made UFC history on Saturday after becoming the first fighter ever to successfully defend the BMF title.

On Saturday at UFC 318, Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier finally completed their trilogy that has spanned over 13 years when they clashed in the main event for the BMF title.

After five incredible rounds, Holloway had his hand raised and picked up the decision win, successfully holding onto the BMF strap.

Following the fight ‘The Diamond’ lay his gloves in the center of the Octagon, confirming his retirement from the sport, as tributes from the likes of Jon Jones and Islam Makhachev poured in for the UFC legend.

Ilia Topuria trolls Max Holloway following UFC 318 win

As all the support poured in for Poirier following his official retirement, UFC boss Dana White commented on what could possibly be next for Holloway.

‘Blessed’ is hopeful of a rematch against the recently crowned new lightweight champion, Ilia Topuria, after ‘El Matador’ marked his permanent move up to 155lbs with another vicious win.

It is currently unclear who the Spaniard will fight in his first title defence as both Justin Gaethje and Arman Tsarukyan wait patiently in line.

And following Holloway’s win in Louisiana, Topuria took the opportunity to troll the Hawaiian with a post on his social media.

“Still mine,” Topuria captioned an image of a replica BMF title.

Ahead of their clash at UFC 308 last year when Topuria knocked Holloway out cold, he walked around parading a replica BMF title. Unfortunately for him, though, the BMF title was not on the line during that fight.

Holloway claims it ‘makes no sense’ for Topuria to carry BMF title

Although the BMF title isn’t widely recognized as a real title by the large majority of the UFC fanbase, there are a handful of fighters who would like to compete for it, Topuria being one of them.

Following his win, Holloway stated that the Spaniard has earned a shot at the strap, but claimed that it makes no sense for him to walk around with a replica title.

“For sure (he’s earned a shot at it) at the end of the day, when the UFC didn’t put it up, it is what it is. It just makes no sense what he’s doing, walking around with it and whatever. Did you see Islam (Makhachev) walking around with a champion belt after beating (Alexander) Volkanovski two times? The belt wasn’t on the line, get over it,” Holloway said in the post fight press conference.
