Joe Rogan wasn’t totally absent from the UFC’s latest pay-per-view.
The popular commentator almost always works when MMA’s premier promotion hosts a numbered event in North America.
So, fans were shocked when it was announced he would be skipping UFC 318, which went down at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Saturday night.
Ahead of Dustin Poirier’s retirement fight against Max Holloway, Joe Rogan sent a message paying homage to ‘The Diamond’, which was played during the UFC 318 broadcast.

Joe Rogan’s brief UFC 318 cameo
The UFC 318 main card kicked off with a video package dedicated to Poirier.
It featured emotional messages from his mother, wife, daughter, and former coach.
Since he couldn’t be there in person, Rogan also sent some kind words to the star of UFC 318.
“Dustin Poirier, you are an absolute legend, one of the best to ever do it,” he said.
“It was an honor to be there through the entirety of your career.”
Why did Joe Rogan skip UFC 318?
An MMA fanatic, it seems strange that Rogan would opt to skip such a momentous occasion.
Rogan’s reason for missing UFC 318 was seemingly revealed ahead of Poirier’s retirement fight.
Several days ago, photos were taken of Rogan and his family enjoying a vacation from the comfort of a luxury yacht.
Traveling aboard the Okto, which comes with a stunning weekly rental price of around $600,000, the 57-year-old and his family have been seen near several places around Europe, including Venice, Italy, and Croatia’s Brač island.
