Consider this man not a fan of the BMF title, which Max Holloway will defend against Dustin Poirier at UFC 318.
The symbolic belt will be on the line for the fourth time this Saturday, almost six years after Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz’s BMF showdown at UFC 244 in 2019.
Current champion Holloway will be the second to attempt a successful defense after he unseated Justin Gaethje last year. To achieve the feat, ‘Blessed’ is tasked with spoiling Dustin Poirier’s retirement fight at UFC 318.
The BMF title has split opinion since its inception, with some loving the concept and others rejecting its legitimacy and place in MMA’s leading promotion.
It’s safe to say that this fighter falls on the latter side of the argument…

Joaquin Buckley wants to see the BMF title end with Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier
During a recent episode of his Brick Brothers Podcast, rising UFC welterweight contender Joaquin Buckley looked ahead to the upcoming PPV main event at Smoothie King Center.
In addition to picking Poirier to retire on top by recording a third victory over Holloway, ‘New Mansa’ is hoping to see ‘The Diamond’ take the symbolic BMF belt into retirement with him.
“To be honest with you, I like that this fight is happening,” Buckley began. “More than likely, (Poirier) is gonna win again, and it’s gonna end this whole BMF thing and title.
“The BMF thing needs to retire with Dustin Poirier. … I think the BMF title, it needs to end. And I think it’s gonna end with Dustin Poirier.
“This is a good ending to the BMF,” Buckley continued. “That’s the only way it goes.”

Tom Aspinall shares Joaquin Buckley’s view on the UFC’s BMF title
Buckley is far from the only prominent UFC fighter who’s not a BMF belt supporter.
Also dismissing its importance ahead of UFC 318 was heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, who questioned why it needs to be attached to Holloway vs. Poirier during his Fight Lab show on TNT Sports.
“Do you want my honest opinion (on the title)? I mean, it’s a title but it’s not a world championship so what are we doing?” Aspinall said.
“These guys don’t need a title, they’re two legends of the sport. Look at the name value, even look at the rankings, look at the amount of fights they’ve got, look at the shorts they’re wearing.
“We don’t really need a title on the line, to be honest,” Aspinall concluded.
