Tony Ferguson isn’t the only ex-UFC lightweight looking to get back into the win column.
At 42 years old, Melvin Guillard is still an ‘anytime, anywhere’ kind of fighter. The 60-fight MMA veteran fought under the UFC banner 20 times against the likes of Nate Diaz, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, and more.
Recent years haven’t been kind to Guillard. Once on a five-fight tear in the Octagon, Guillard hasn’t won an MMA fight since 2014.
It was that year former BMF Champion Justin Gaethje began a 10-fight losing skid for Guillard, with defeats to notable names like Israel Adesanya and Takanori Gomi.
Guillard ignored calls for his retirement following his most recent defeat, a first-round submission to Josiah Harrell in May.
Now, Guillard is set to take on another prospect who’s got his eyes on the UFC.

Melvin Guillard vs. Isaac Moreno set for Fury FC 106 on Friday
On a day’s notice, Guillard steps in as a last-minute replacement to fight undefeated welterweight Isaac Moreno at Fury FC 106 on Friday.
Guillard vs. Moreno was announced on Wednesday night after four different opponent changes for Moreno.
“Always ready,” Guillard reacted to the news on his Instagram story.
“5 time the charm?” Moreno wrote on Instagram.
“God always has a plan. Don’t blink…”
Moreno is 6-0 as a pro, with three knockout wins. This is Moreno’s first fight after a two-year layoff. The 27-year-old prospect will look to extend Guillard’s losing skid to 11.
Fury FC 106 goes down from the Alario Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, the night before Dustin Poirier’s retirement fight at UFC 318. The event streams live on UFC Fight Pass.
Melvin Guillard took Justin Gaethje to a split decision in 2014
Not long after his UFC release in 2014, Guillard found himself fighting for the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) title.
Guillard’s last win came over Gesias Cavalcante in his promotional debut. In the fight after that, Guillard was set to challenge lightweight champion Justin Gaethje at WSOF 15.
Guillard missed championship weight by 4 lbs and the fight was turned into a non-title bout.
After three rounds of action, Gaethje defeated Guillard via split decision to improve to 13-0.
