Randy Couture details ‘200mph’ race car crash
On Wednesday, Couture addressed his fans in a video statement shared to Instagram.
The 62-year-old, who was sporting a bandage on his right arm, detailed the crash and his trip to the hospital before thanking everyone who has sent him well wishes since the incident.
“I wanted to give you a little update. I got home yesterday from the burn center. They did a great job of taking care of me for the last week,” Couture began.
“That process started in Kansas City last Tuesday. I went off the course training in my Pro Mod car, trying to get my license to be a drag racer this year. Obviously, I’m not off to the best of starts.
“I overcorrected, and that shot me into the wall on the right side of the track. Probably at about 200 miles per hour. I ricocheted and went all the way over the track to the left wall, because you’ve gotta do it right. That crushed the gas tank in the car and started the fire.
“I did not realize at that time that I had been burned from the heat and everything that had been going on.
“I got settled down. They laid me down on the backboard, cut all the rest of my clothes off, got the helicopter there, and flew me to Kansas City.
“I’ve got a couple of broken ribs on my left side, been there before. The burns, started the treatment, and all that stuff, which is very intense… They are all healing very, very well. Thankfully, I avoided a [skin] graft. So far, no grafting necessary, so that’s good news.”
