UFC 318 is going to be an emotional moment for Dustin Poirier as he makes his last walk to the Octagon.
Poirier has produced an incredible career as one of the most beloved fighters in the sport following everything that he has been through.
While Dana White may not make the same commitment to Max Holloway, the UFC has helped to make his retirement feel extra special.
‘The Diamond’ made his pro debut all the way back in 2009 so living the life of a fighter has been all that he has known for a very long time.
Along with the stresses of fighting, there’s another aspect that Poirier is happy about leaving behind when he lays the gloves down on July 19.
Dustin Poirier jokes about having to do blood and urine tests while buying a new car
Dustin Poirier has joked in several interviews ahead of UFC 318 that once he has retired from MMA, he’ll be taking steroids now that he will no longer be drug tested.
‘The Diamond’ made similar comments when previewing his final fight in an interview with Shakiel Mahjouri, before making it clear that he’s just having fun with it.
However, no longer needing to worry about being randomly drug tested is a benefit for Poirier having been caught off guard on several occasions.
“Now that I won’t have that burden of getting random drug tests at 8AM in the morning, people knocking at my door.”

After detailing one instance where he was woken up early on a relaxing Sunday morning, Poirier went on to tell the story of the most inconvenient time that he was required to take a test.
The randomness of the tests is what makes them so effective in theory but of course, that also means being an inconvenience for fighters who are just going about their day.
In this case, Poirier made the testers come to him so that he could kill two birds with one stone.
“Actually, one time, I was buying a vehicle. I was at the dealership signing the paperwork and they called me. They were at the gate here at my house. They were like, ‘Well, if you can’t make it here back to your house to meet me in the next hour, it counts as a failed test.’
“I’m like, ‘Well you can drive to the, I can’t leave right now, I’m in the middle of paperwork.’ They drove to the dealership, I did blood and urine at the car dealership in the office.”

Dustin Poirier has already been tested several times this year
The UFC’s Anti-Doping system recently updated their 2025 figures which show exactly how many times each athlete on the roster has been tested.
Despite the fact that he’s yet to compete this year, it’s been a fairly busy year for Dustin Poirier from this standpoint.
He has been tested three times ahead of UFC 318, which is only two fewer than he was tested in the entirety of both 2024 and 2023.
Poirier might miss getting to perform under the brightest lights for his fans but having to frequently update his whereabouts isn’t likely to be something that ‘The Diamond’ will reflect on with fond memories.
