Dana White weighs in on controversial stoppage that gave Derrick Lewis 35-second KO win at UFC Nashville

Dana White has shared his thoughts on a controversially quick stoppage at UFC Nashville.

The UFC CEO was cageside as Derrick Lewis knocked out Tallison Teixeira in 35 seconds on Saturday night.

However, many fans and fighters believe the UFC Nashville main event should’ve been allowed to continue.

Tallison Teixeira had been rocked and dropped by Derrick Lewis, but the 6ft 7in Brazilian had managed to climb back to his feet by the time referee Jason Herzog stepped in to call off the contest.

Dana White disagrees with UFC Nashville stoppage

During his post-fight press conference, Dana White reflected on Lewis’ record-extending 16th UFC win by KO.

The UFC CEO claimed he expected the fight to end earlier, even though he thinks it should have continued for a little longer.

“We kind of figured that fight would go like that,” White said. “It delivered. It was what we expected. It was what everyone expected. Nobody expected a five-round fight.”

“A fight can turn with one punch. Whoever lands that big shot, and they were both trying to land it, and he got him.

“I thought the stoppage was a little fast, but you know, it is what it is.”

Daniel Cormier defends ‘bad stoppage’

Former dual-weight UFC champion Daniel Cormier was on commentary duty this past weekend.

Cormier defended Lewis’ quick KO win, and Herzog during the UFC Nashville broadcast

“That was unbelievable,” he said.

“People saying there was a bad stoppage… Teixeira grabbed the cage to pull himself up,”

“Referee needs to take a point. He can’t stop the finish to take the point, so you stop the fight.
