Conor McGregor demands ‘rematch’ after bizarre injury leads to controversial result in BKFC title fight

Conor McGregor isn’t happy with how one fight ended on Saturday night.

The co-headliner featured an interim flyweight championship between Andrew Strode and Gee Perez, which was supposed to determine John Dodson’s next challenger.

Despite the stakes, a secondary champion was not crowned as Strode vs. Perez ended in controversy.

Strode opened a sizable cut on Perez’s left ear with a punch. In between rounds two and three, Perez’s earlobe was partially torn with a flap-like laceration in what was one of the worst injuries in BKFC history.

The ringside physician advised the referee to call off the fight, which was initially declared a no-contest.

Conor McGregor demands BKFC rematch

BKFC co-owner Conor McGregor dropped a ton of news about the fledgling fight company on Thursday.

Two days later, he watched on from home as Strode and Perez battled for the chance to face Dodson.

The former dual-weight UFC champion was frustrated to see their fight end in an inconclusive manner.

“Unlucky,” McGregor wrote on his Instagram story alongside an image of Perez’s mangled ear.

“This was turning into an INCREDIBLE MATCH! And was to the end. REMATCH.”

New champion crowned after no-contest is overturned

During his post-event press conference, BKFC boss David Feldman said he would be talking to the Florida State Athletic Commission about why the interim title fight ended in a no-contest.

Strode caused the fight-ending injury, and in most cases, he would’ve been awarded the TKO stoppage.

On Sunday evening, the BKFC announced that the Florida commission had overturned the no-contest result to a win for Strode, the newly-crowned BKFC interim bantamweight champion.

“After further review, the Florida State Athletic Commission has overturned the no contest in the Strode vs Perez bout, and has awarded the win and Interim Flyweight Title to Andrew Strode!” BKFC tweeted.

It’s currently unclear if McGregor was aware of the above information when he demanded a rematch.
