Early stoppage? Daniel Cormier defends Derrick Lewis’ emote KO at UFC Nashville for key reason

UFC commentator Daniel Cormier refutes claims Derrick Lewis’ latest KO was a ‘bad stoppage’.

The UFC’s heavyweight knockout king Derrick Lewis keeps making history as he notched KO #16 in the five-round main event of UFC Nashville on Saturday night.

Lewis’ victim was the fifth-tallest fighter in UFC history, 6’7″ Tallison Teixeira. The undefeated knockout artist was knocked out himself in the opening round.

Within a minute, Lewis faked that he was hurt and dropped Teixeira with a punch, following up with more strikes for the finish. Lewis celebrated by taking his shorts off, calling President Donald Trump, and mooning the audience cageside.

Lewis’ TKO stoppage of Teixeira didn’t come without controversy, as some have argued it was an early stoppage since Teixeira made it back up to his feet.

Daniel Cormier defends KO stoppage because Tallison Teixeira illegally grabbed cage

Teixeira protested referee Jason Herzog stopping his first UFC main event in 35 seconds, as did others online.

UFC commentator and Lewis’ former foe Daniel Cormier disagrees with the notion the fight was called off early, mentioning how Teixeira grabbed the cage to lift himself up to his feet.

“That was unbelievable,” Cormier said of Lewis’ KO on the UFC Nashville broadcast.

“People saying there was a bad stoppage… Teixeira grabbed the case to pull himself up,” Cormier added.

“Referee needs to take a point. He can’t stop the finish to take the point, so you stop the fight.

“He was out,” Lewis said of Teixeira.

“You can’t grab the cage to pull yourself up to your feet and then say it was a bad stoppage.”

Derrick Lewis says he made $2 for showing his butt to the crowd

After multiple taunts and celebrations, Lewis took it up a notch by showing his butt cheeks to the crowd through the cage to their amazement.

It wouldn’t be the first time the UFC heavyweight has done this as Lewis did it at UFC St. Louis last year.

During his post-fight interview, Lewis, one of the highest paid fighters on the UFC roster, showed two dollars he received from the crowd.

“That’s what they wanted and they paid me for it,” Lewis said of showing his butt to the fans.

“Throwing money at me… Two dolla.

“I would say I’m a two dollar you-know-what, but can’t say it on TV…” Lewis joked.
