Ben Askren shares wholesome message of support he received from Michael Chandler amid health battle

Ben Askren is feeling the love as he battles through the toughest fight of his career.

In June, the former UFC star was hospitalized in a critical condition due to a severe case of pneumonia brought on by a staph infection.

After a 45-day coma, Ben Askren received the double-lung transplant he needed to save his life.

Now, he’s back on social media, sharing some of the many messages of support he’s received during the worst time of his life.

Ben Askren shares wholesome Michael Chandler video

On Sunday, Ben Askren posted a video of UFC star Michael Chandler to his Instagram page.

In the clip, the former three-time Bellator champion showed off the trophies he won during his wrestling career, which began after he was inspired to get into the sport by Askren.

“I just had my mom and dad bring my All-American plaque home this past weekend,” Chandler began.

“Since 2009, it’s been at their house. They’ve just brought it back to me so I can display it.

“I hope you know the main reason why I have this, the main reason why I became an All-American, the main reason why some little guy from High Ridge, Missouri, who did not believe in himself, did not believe that he deserved to stand on that podium, the main reason is you. His name is Ben Askren.

“I love you so freaking much, man. I look up to you. I admire you. I am fighting with you. I am praying for you. You’ve got so many people that love you, man. Keep on fighting.

“Keep on fighting! We love you, Ben. God bless. I’ll see you at the top.”

Askren added the caption: “There are few things in life better than showing a young person they are capable of success! Once you teach them this, you empower them for life.”

Dana White confirms Ben Askren donation

UFC CEO Dana White has been a vocal supporter during Ben Askren’s recent health issues.

On Saturday night, White confirmed he helped fund the $2 million operation that saved the 40-year-old.

“I usually don’t talk about that stuff, but yes, I did,” he replied when asked point-blank if he had financially supported Askren.

“I did. I mean, we reached out to his wife as soon as we heard and told her, ‘if there’s anything you need’.

“And yes, I did, yes. I just don’t like talking about that s—, that’s between us, but yes.”
