Conor McGregor drops latest hint about UFC comeback fight amid campaign to compete at the White House

Conor McGregor has continued his campaign for a fight at the White House by all but confirming it will be the host venue for his massive comeback.

It’s officially been over four years since his last octagon outing, where he suffered a gruesome broken leg in his trilogy with Dustin Poirier. Since then, a number of touted comebacks have come and gone, including his officially pulling out of UFC 303 last summer against Michael Chandler due to a broken toe.

Now, he appears to have a new motivation for competing driven by his political ambitions. He plans to run for President of Ireland in November, and whether he wins or not, push to fight at the White House in front of President Donald Trump next year.

Conor McGregor claims he is heading to the White House for UFC comeback

At Thursday night’s massive BKFC champions’ summit in Hollywood, Florida, Conor McGregor spoke to the media about a number of topics. He managed to run into his old pal Mike Perry for an intense face-off and launched a $25million tournament set for next year.

He even managed to drop a nugget about his plans for a comeback fight when asked if he would like to get into the BKFC ring. He is infamously tied to a UFC contract for two more fights, and reminded the press of that when asked, before teasing his comeback.

“I’m in this as owner until I can clear my slate,” he noted. “It’s looking like I’m heading to the Oval Office again so that’s where I’m heading next.”

Dana White unsure about Conor McGregor’s plans for UFC White House fight

However, Dana White seemed relatively non-committal about the idea when pressed about it by the Nelk Boys on the Full Send podcast. Released around the same time as the BKFC press conference, White was asked if McGregor could share the card with Jon Jones.

The former heavyweight champion cancelled his retirement plans in order to campaign for a White House fight, which White wants to be against Tom Aspinall. And while he noted that the pair “could” share the card and that “anything’s possible”, his later comments put a dampener on it.

“McGregor has gotten himself to a point where he is and will be, whether he stops fighting or not, one of the biggest superstars in sports, period.” White explained. “He’s gotten to a level of success in his life where he has to, I think, be motivated by something.

“He’s accomplished everything and especially financially. Now he’s got to find something that truly motivates him to want to come back and do this again. I don’t know if the White House is it, but we’ll see.”
