‘Most people lose’ … Tom Aspinall didn’t scare Jon Jones into retirement, says UFC star

Jon Jones is ‘doing everything right’ by not fighting Tom Aspinall.

That’s what one former UFC title challenger said after the UFC Heavyweight Champion retired from MMA just weeks ago.

Arguably the greatest fighter of all time, Jones shocked the UFC world with his decision to retire at 37, with UFC CEO Dana White announcing interim titleholder Tom Aspinall as the new undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

Jones has hinted at coming back for a fight at the White House, but on multiple occasions, the retired two-division champion has been accused of ‘ducking’ a fight with Aspinall, who has destroyed every UFC heavyweight in his path.

However, not everybody thinks Jones retired because of Aspinall.

Chito Vera says Jon Jones not scared to fight Tom Aspinall

Turning 38 later this year, Jones has accomplished much more than most fighters dream of.

The pound-for-pound king for the most amount of days in UFC history along with many other accolades, top bantamweight Chito Vera insists Jones did ‘everything’ in his UFC run, despite not unifying the title against Aspinall.

“Do you think Jon Jones is scared to fight Tom Aspinall?” Vera was asked on the Makeshift Podcast.

“No,” Vera answered.

“He doesn’t need to fight Aspinall. He did everything. He fought in his prime. He won the belt—the youngest ever.

“He has never lost the belt. Few incidents outside [the Octagon], but no one’s perfect, so that’s on him.

“He’s solid. He should retire whenever the f— he wants,” Vera said of Jones.

“Because most people lose seven in a row, and then [people go] mister, come on, you should retire.

“He’s doing everything right, so f— everybody that is against that.”

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards predicted Jones to lose to Aspinall if he were to come out of retirement.

Tony Ferguson is being told to retire after 8-straight losses

Tony Ferguson isn’t ‘most people’, but the legendary lightweight has lost his last eight fights.

Ferguson was once on a stellar 12-fight win streak at 155 lbs before it all came crashing down in 2020. Justin Gaethje snapped Ferguson’s streak with a standing TKO at UFC 249 and the former UFC interim lightweight champion proceeded to lose his next seven fights and his job at the UFC.

Ferguson, 41, recently confirmed he’d be making his pro boxing debut on Aug. 30, which has been met by much concern from fans.

“Is Tony Ferguson showing signs of CTE?” one fan asked Grok on X.

“Better be against someone equally washed,” another fan wrote.

“He should do wrestling or Jiu-jitsu, why is he signing up for more punishment to the head?” a fan reacted to news of Ferguson’s boxing debut.

“Bro just retire already,” a fan wrote on X.
