Jake Paul’s top 15 ranking reportedly under review after ‘heavy criticism and outrage’ from fighters

Jake Paul’s dream of winning a world title could be hit by a setback later this month.

The 12-1 cruiserweight was elevated into the WBA top 15 after a career-best win on June 28.

Jake Paul beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., a former WBC middleweight champion, by unanimous decision.

In doing so, he earned the #14 ranking with the WBA and became eligible to face their cruiserweight king Gilberto Ramírez later this year.

Jake Paul’s top 15 ranking under review

Jake Paul‘s world ranking was met with confusion and criticism by many fight fans.

The 28-year-old never fought a ranked fighter before the WBA decided to put him in their top 15.

According to The Ring, that decision has caused uproar among the other fighters and prompted a review into Paul’s position with the governing body.

“Due to heavy criticism and outrage from other ranked contenders, the WBA will review Jake Paul’s cruiserweight ranking at their upcoming European convention in Madrid – which takes place from July 15-18,” The Ring tweeted on Saturday.

“The WBA ranked Paul at No. 14 in its cruiserweight rankings after his lackluster win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last Saturday. Chavez Jr. wasn’t ranked at cruiserweight and his last notable win came in 2012 at middleweight.

“Paul has never defeated a ranked boxer, unless you count his “fight” with the 58-year-old Mike Tyson.”

Jake Paul calls out Badou Jack

Hours before reports emerged that his ranking might be yanked, Jake Paul called out a world champion.

‘The Problem Child’ opted against going the WBA route as he set his sights on WBC titleholder Badou Jack.

“Shoutout to the WBA and Gilberto for being disruptors and not being afraid to recognize me,” Paul wrote on X.

“Seeing all these lists with current champion Badou Jack. Give me him next.”

Paul is not currently recognized as a cruiserweight contender by the WBC, so a fight for Jack’s belt is unlikely.

Only time will tell who the YouTuber-turned-boxer will share the ring with when he fights again later this year.
