Tony Ferguson confirms combat sports return after suffering worst losing skid in UFC history

For the first time in 17 years, Tony Ferguson’s next fight won’t take place in a MMA cage.

Former interim UFC champion Tony Ferguson is one of the greatest lightweights of all time. Despite never capturing the undisputed title, Ferguson held a massive 12-fight win streak from 2013 to 2020.

Over time, Ferguson’s epic win streak turned into the longest losing skid in UFC history as ‘El Cucuy’ dropped his final 8 fights in the Octagon before he was eventually released from the premier promotion.

At 41, Ferguson refuses to retire after his recent booking against Dillon Danis got cancelled by the GFL in May.

Ferguson apparently has fight news on the horizon, according to his latest interview.

Tony Ferguson says he’s making pro boxing debut on Aug. 30

After 36 pro MMA fights, 24 of those being under the UFC banner, Ferguson is stepping into the boxing ring.

That’s right, the submission artist will be lacing up the big gloves on Aug. 30. Ferguson says he is currently training for his pro boxing debut, though his opponent has yet to be announced.

“Right now, I have a fight on August 30,” Ferguson told Red Corner MMA.

“I’m gonna be boxing.

“Can’t tell you who yet, but it will be boxing.

“One win changes everything,” said Ferguson, who hasn’t won in six years.

Ferguson’s last win was a TKO stoppage over UFC Hall of Famer Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 238 in June 2019, his 12th UFC win in a row.

Tony Ferguson might try out for pro baseball among other sports

Ferguson doesn’t even want to think about retirement in his post-UFC career.

A three-sport athlete in high school, Ferguson has said in the past he wanted to play baseball during his UFC tenure.

Now that he’s a free agent, Ferguson plans to give baseball and other combat sports a try.

“A lot of people use that stupid f—— word retirement,” Ferguson said.

“I don’t use that word. I’m still competing. I’m 41. I’m faster than I guarantee you every f—— person that’s in here. We want to run and sprint, I’m still faster. I could do more pull ups, more push ups, more f—— any kind of calisthenics that you could put your name on it…

“I’m doing everything, and what I wanted to do was play multiple sports,” Ferguson said, not shutting the door on MMA.

“I might go try out for baseball, for pro.

“I’m doing my first boxing professional fight, I’m gonna be doing pro grappling.

“There’s a lot of different sports that I wanna go and try and that makes it more interesting because, damn it, I’m a f—— athlete, and I win a lot.”
