Robert Whittaker’s UFC career could be coming to an end soon, but he has revealed his plans to go out on top in the octagon.
The former UFC Middleweight champion is fifth in the rankings and strongly in contention for a future title shot against Dricus du Plessis if he can string some wins together.
His first stop will be in Abu Dhabi, where Robert Whittaker takes on Reinier de Ridder in what should be an explosive main event between two exciting fighters.
This is just step one of Whittaker’s plan that, if executed correctly, would leave him on top of the world as he ends his career in the UFC.

Robert Whittaker wants to finish his UFC career with a world title shot
“The Reaper” does not want to go gentle into that good night, as he targets an explosive end to his UFC career, which includes a world title fight.
Whittaker is planning to end his career sooner, rather than later, with four more fights planned to get him into title contention.
He spoke with Fox Sports Australia, where Whittaker revealed his plan was to win his next four fights, compete in a title fight, and finish his career on top of the UFC.
Whittaker said: “Four fights. I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I see—yeah—four. I want four more. That’s me.
“I see the stepping stones needed to do what I want to do. Four fights gets me into that title shot, gets me into a position to, you know, finish on top—to have that fairytale ending.
“So mate, I’m working towards it.”
There are some big names ahead of Robert Whittaker in the UFC Middleweight rankings
While his plan to move forward and earn a title shot is admirable, it won’t be as easy as the Australian fighter makes it out to be.
Whittaker is ranked #5 in the UFC Middleweight rankings, behind champion Du Plessis and five top contenders.
He is also behind Israel Adesanya, who beat Whittaker back in 2021 and 2019, as the Nigerian-Kiwi fighter sits in fourth place in the rankings.
Fighter | Ranking |
Dricus du Plessis | Champion |
Nassourdine Imavov | 1 |
Sean Strickland | 2 |
Khamzat Chimaev | 3 |
Israel Adesanya | 4 |
Robert Whittaker | 5 |
Ahead of him are three of the toughest fighters in the UFC. Khamzat Chimaev, Sean Strickland, and Nassourdine Imavov will prove a tough test for Whittaker, who will have to compete with at least some of them to jump up the rankings towards a title shot.
Winning his next four fights is a possibility, especially for somebody as experienced as the former UFC Middleweight champion. However, Whittaker will have to be at his best if he wants his fairytale ending.
