We haven’t seen the last of Leon Edwards in the UFC Octagon.
For the first time in his career, the former UFC Welterweight Champion is coming off of back-to-back losses. Up until last year, Edwards was on a 13-fight unbeaten streak before Belal Muhammad caught up to him in their title rematch at UFC 304.
Muhammad snapped Edwards’ streak by decision and in March, Edwards tapped out for the first time in his career to top contender Sean Brady.
Ranked #4 in a tough welterweight division, top contender Ian Machado Garry thinks Edwards should retire after his recent setbacks.
Edwards has something else in mind.

Leon Edwards says he’s mentioned fighting Ian Machado Garry to the UFC
Machado Garry is officially on Edwards’ radar.
After fighting 20 takedown attempts in his last two main events, Edwards is willing to return against the #6-ranked Machado Garry, who’s good just about everywhere.
Machado Garry has been calling Edwards out for a while now, seemingly stopping after the former champ lost his #1 ranking to Brady.
“That’d be a good fight,” Edwards said of Machado Garry in an interview with Sky Sports’ Joe Leigh.
“Definitely. That’s the fight I’ve mentioned to the UFC.
“I think that’d be a great fight to get back in there,” Edwards added.
Machado Garry is 16-1 as a pro and 9-1 in the UFC. The Irishman is coming off a five-round win over top prospect Carlos Prates in May.
Leon Edwards confident he’ll rebook Jack Della Maddalena fight
Prior to his title capture against Belal Muhammad at UFC 315, Australia’s Jack Della Maddalena was supposed to fight Edwards in the main event of UFC London in March.
Instead of fighting Edwards in a title eliminator, Della Maddalena was chosen as Muhammad’s next title challenger. Della Maddalena won the title by decision, while Edwards moved on to fight a stylistic nightmare in Sean Brady, who used his grappling to maul the talented striker.
While he’s out of the title picture for now, ‘Rocky’ believes he can make it back to a title fight.
“100%. Definitely,” Edwards said, when asked if he sees a fight with Della Maddalena happening.
“I think Jack is what? [28]. I’m 33, so I feel like there’s time for us to meet one day,” Edwards continued.
“He’s got good boxing. I got good overall striking. I think it’d be a good fight…”
