Fighter attacked by Sean Strickland reveals surprising take on the punishment former UFC champion should face

The Tuff-N-Uff event on June 29 made headlines when a former UFC champion attacked another fighter.

Sean Strickland entered the cage and punched Luis Hernandez after the undefeated fighter submitted the former UFC champion’s teammate.

In a statement on social media in the aftermath of the video attracting a lot of attention, Strickland admitted some regret but he also stated that he’s “not capable” of reacting to someone trash talking him.

Hernandez has given his side of the story in several recent interviews with there being no update as of yet regarding what punishment Strickland will face.

Despite provoking the often outspoken UFC star, Hernandez did offer a surprising reaction to the aftermath of the situation.

Luis Hernandez reveals he likes Sean Strickland and hopes he isn’t punished for his actions at Tuff-N-Uff 145

In an interview with MMA Fighting, Luis Hernandez spoke about his brief altercation with Sean Strickland and fellow UFC fighter Chris Curtis.

Hernandez made reference to the fact that in the video, you can see that he’s laughing and smiling even after the former UFC champion threw punches at him.

The undefeated 28-year-old clearly doesn’t think that the situation is anything too significant, and his thoughts on whether Strickland should be punished for his actions reflect this.

While it seems possible that Strickland could face some sort of suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Hernandez hopes that this isn’t the case.

He said that while he did provoke his opponent’s corner, citing them laughing about him ahead of the fight as one of his motivations for doing this, he doesn’t hold any negative feelings towards them.

Hernandez even joked that he was hoping to train at Xtreme Couture alongside Strickland and Curtis at some point, though this door would now appear to be shut.

“I really have nothing towards them and I would say this. I hope the commission does not, and they even asked me, they’re like, ‘Hey are you going to press charges?’ I’m like, ‘What? No.’ I would never want anything to happen to these guys because I actually like them and I hope they watch this. I have nothing against Sean, nothing against Chris, nothing against Xtreme Couture. I like those guys.”

Luis Hernandez hints that there has been some comments exchanged after the altercation

During the interview, Luis Hernandez was asked whether either Sean Strickland, Chris Curtis or someone else from the Xtreme Couture team had reached out to him to apologize.

The middleweight didn’t give away any details but he did suggest that there was some kind of conversation once the dust had settled.

Again, Hernandez pointed to the idea that he doesn’t believe this needs to be taken all that seriously so that all parties involved can move on.

“Possibly there has been a little discussion. I would say we’re all adults here and I have nothing against them and I will say this again, I hope the commission does not take this out on them at all because hey, at the end of the day, we’re all professionals and this is entertainment.”
