Prior to his time as the voice of the UFC, the American participated in combat sports himself.
When a bully got the better of Rogan in a fight, he realized he wanted to learn martial arts, falling in love with taekwondo and becoming a skilled practitioner of the discipline.
However, everything changed after he stumbled upon another fight sport.

Joe Rogan gave up on Olympic dream after losing faith in taekwondo
Joe Rogan wanted to become an Olympic taekwondo champion.
But when he started kickboxing, the American concluded that the sport wasn’t as practical as he once thought.
On an episode of the JRE MMA Show from 2018, the podcaster explained: “I just wanted to be in the Olympics; I wanted to be a taekwondo champion; it’s all I wanted to do.
“The problem was, I started sparring with kickboxers and getting f—– up. I realized taekwondo has no hands, the hand techniques are useless.
“When I was in a boxing ring, and I was sparring with someone, they’d get me in a corner and start f—— me up. I was like, ‘I don’t know how to do this, I need to learn how to box’.
“So, I realized taekwondo in a lot of situations isn’t useful.”

While Rogan didn’t end up becoming an Olympic champion, his taekwondo skills still helped him out.
On one occasion, he was approached by a group of thugs.
The situation quickly took a turn, with the men trying to intimidate the New Jerseyan.
