Ilia Topuria costs Drake a massive payout after UFC 317 knockout spoils bold Charles Oliveira bet

Ilia Topuria’s brutal win over Charles Oliveira might have been an especially tough watch for Drake.

Saturday’s UFC 317 pay-per-view concluded with the crowning of a new lightweight kingpin, as the division began a new era following Islam Makhachev vacating the title.

Closing out International Fight Week was a highly anticipated clash between Topuria and Oliveira, as the former featherweight champion looked to become the latest to achieve two-division glory on MMA’s biggest stage.

‘El Matador’ was ultimately successful in that goal, something that resulted in Canadian music star Drake losing a major bet.

As is often the case for major UFC pay-per-views, Drake laid down a sizable sum of money on one half of the headliner.

A post on the Canadian’s Instagram Stories during fight week revealed that Drake staked $200,000 to win $880,000 on Oliveira to upset Topuria in the UFC 317 main event.

That wager quickly went down the drain, however, courtesy of the Spaniard’s frightening power.

Topuria made good on his promise to knock Oliveira out in round one to add a second piece of UFC gold to his collection and extend his undefeated run.

After years of the so-called ‘Drake curse,’ the popular rapper had enjoyed success in recent months.

He notably banked big on Jon Jones’ victory over Stipe Miocic last November, bouncing back from a loss in Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson by collecting almost $1 million from the GOAT contender’s one and only heavyweight title defense.

And just this past April, it was the turn of Alexander Volkanovski to bring about a lucrative night for the 38-year-old Toronto native. Drake banked another $915,000 courtesy of the Australian’s victory over Diego Lopes at UFC 314 in Miami.

Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway may be waiting with bated breath to see who gets the Drake curse placed among them ahead of UFC 319 in New Orleans on July 19.
