Conor McGregor reacts to Ilia Topuria’s spectacular UFC 317 title win over Charles Oliveira… ‘UFC is back?’

Conor McGregor watched on as Ilia Topuria successfully captured the UFC lightweight title at UFC 317 this past Saturday.

After Islam Makhachev vacated the 155lb title, the UFC announced that Ilia Topuria would take on Charles Oliveira for the vacant strap at UFC 317.

And this past Saturday in the main event, Topuria separated Oliveira from consciousness with a huge right hand in the first round, becoming the new lightweight king.

Immediately after the fight, Topuria faced off with his potential next opponent as Paddy Pimblett made his way into the cage for an impromptu stare down.

With his win, ‘El Matador’ joined a list of UFC greats to win a title in two separate weight classes, becoming the 10th fighter to do so.

The list includes the likes of Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, Georges St-Pierre and others, and the Spaniard is now undoubtedly the biggest current star in the sport.

And now just a few hours removed from his spectacular win, ‘The Notorious’ McGregor has reacted with some surprising words of support.

“Congrats on winning my old titles, Ilia! He said he’s gonna rest his balls on Paddy’s head too, haha fair play,” McGregor said.

“Good lightweight scrap that one is as well, in my opinion. UFC is back? Or still missing something? Three KOs back to back to back is very good. No one can deny the knockout. I like (the rose).

“Unlucky to Charles also. Styles make fights! You are a tremendous and legendary UFC fighter. Rest up,” McGregor continued.

Conor McGregor once claimed he would ‘cave Topuria’s head in’

The former UFC double champion’s words of support came as quite the surprise considering his past feud with the Spanish knockout artist.

‘The Notorious’ once claimed he would ‘cave Topuria’s head in’ after he was asked his opinion of Topuria during a live stream.

Topuria did bite back at McGregor with a violent threat, warning him that if they ever crossed paths he would ‘F— him up’.

Although that would likely be a huge fight in the sport, there are no signs of McGregor returning any time soon despite continuous teases.
