UFC 317 winner reacts after 55-second domination marks his 16th first-round finish… ‘Sorry that took so long’

Terrance McKinney wrapped things up in quick time at UFC 317.

While a heavyweight slog may have kicked off Saturday’s pay-per-view, it didn’t take long for Theo Von and other early UFC 317 attendees to witness the night’s first finish.

After Jhonata Diniz and Alvin Hines fought to a decision, the early preliminary portion of UFC 317 closed with a memorable performance from perennial finisher McKinney, who made easy and short work of the always-entertaining Viacheslav Borshchev.

Terrance McKinney runs through Viacheslav Borshchev in under a minute at UFC 317

‘T.Wrecks’ has become renowned for his fast starts to fights, something he introduced to the global MMA fanbase in his very first UFC performance.

On debut, McKinney netted a record-breaking knockout at UFC 263 by finishing Matt Frevola in just seven seconds. Though not quite as quick, McKinney enjoyed similar success at UFC 317.

The American put his name in the bonus hat early in the night by running through Borshchev. McKinney charged at ‘Slava Claus’ from the get-go, taking the Russian lightweight down and attacking with a guillotine choke.

While Borshchev frantically tried to escape à la Alexander Volkanovski against Brian Ortega at UFC 266 in 2021, he ultimately succumbed and tapped out.

That result boosted a number of incredible statistics on McKinney’s MMA résumé.

‘T.Wrecks’ has now won 16 of his 17 professional wins by way of first-round finishes. He hasn’t gone past the opening frame in victory since a third-round submission in just his fourth fight.

McKinney has therefore finished all seven of his UFC wins inside the first round, the most of any fighter in the promotion since 2021.

“Sorry that took so long,” McKinney joked on X after the fight.

More important than the timely nature of the result, McKinney has now won three straight fights for the first time in his UFC career.

He will now look to build on that consistency by making a push for the top 15 at 155 pounds.
