Jon Jones bites back at Demetrious Johnson for discrediting him in the UFC GOAT debate

Following his recent UFC retirement, Jon Jones has continued to hit back at his critics.

A few weeks ago, the long saga involving UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and interim champion Tom Aspinall finally came to an end when Jones officially retired from the sport.

Although Jones’ retirement should have been a celebration for what has been an incredible career, the majority of fans hijacked his retirement post in one last opportunity to troll him for ‘ducking’ Aspinall.

Not long after his official exit from the sport, ‘Bones’ sparked concern amongst the fans after a storm of strange posts on his social media.

Jones bites back at Demetrious Johnson for GOAT debate

Immediately after Jones’ retirement, heartfelt tributes from some of the greatest fighters of all time poured in, including recognition from Anderson Silva and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

However, one fighter who wasn’t as supportive of Jones in his retirement was former UFC flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson.

After stating his confusion with Jones not fighting Aspinall, Johnson recently doubled down on the fact that he doesn’t consider Jones as the greatest fighter of all time.

“I’ve always defended Jon Jones,” Johnson began to explain on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“I truly believe he’s one of the best to ever do it… But when I sit there and dissect his career, from the very first time he got in the UFC to the entire thing and when you go through it… How are you gonna say Jones is one of the greatest of all time when he’s failed a drug test.

“We can have two mountains, a mountain of just clean motherf——, me, (Georges St-Pierre), Khabib Nurmagomedov, and then you can have one of fighters that have failed drug tests… It is what it is.

“These are legit facts. I have never failed a drug test, Khabib has never failed a drug test, GSP has never failed a drug test… We’ve never been stripped,” Johnson continued.

Jon Jones claps back after being discredited in GOAT debate

Even throughout his career Jones was one of the most outspoken fighters in the sport, and even now in retirement, the 37-year-old has continued to clap back at his critics.

“Some of these podcasts think the MMA fanbase is stupid. You throw the right words around like steroids or failed drug tests, and expect no one to actually do their homework. It’s really an insult to the listener, the drug testing agencies, the UFC, the commission. No wonder why certain reporters aren’t even allowed to step foot into a UFC event,” Jones said in a post on X.

Despite his retirement, the 37-year-old hasn’t ruled out a potential comeback to the sport at some point and he will likely ramp up his work as co-owner of Dirty Boxing.
