Alexander Volkanovski faces off with potential next title challenger during team vs team stare down

Alexander Volkanovski and the UFC fanbase are still waiting to find out who he will defend his featherweight title against next.

This past April at UFC 314, Alexander Volkanovski defied all odds when he recaptured the UFC featherweight title in the main event, defeating Diego Lopes via a decision.

Following the fight, Volkanovski revealed that he would like to defend his title against Movsar Evloev next, however, he was denied that fight when Evloev accepted to fight newcomer Aaron Pico.

UFC boss Dana White claimed that with a win over Pico, Evloev would ‘likely’ be next to fight for the title but considering the fact that he has snubbed the Russian on several occasions, it isn’t guaranteed.

Alexander Volkanovski faces off with Jean Silva during impromptu stare down

With the undefeated Russian out of the title picture for now, rumors began to surface that Volkanovski’s next title defense would come against former foe, Yair Rodriguez.

Of course, fans didn’t take well to the news that the Mexican may be granted a title shot considering he is 2-2 in his last four fights.

And with that, one fighter that has been put forward by fans is the soaring Jean Silva. ‘Lord’ Silva has won all five of his UFC outings in extremely impressive fashion and is rising to superstar status.

However, it was recently announced that Silva will clash against the aforementioned Lopes in the main event of UFC Noche this coming September.

A win over Lopes would undoubtedly secure the Brazilian a featherweight title shot, and with Volkanovski’s next fight still not confirmed, he could rise to the top of the pile.

Volkanovski began to regress after taking too many fights in quick succession and despite claiming that he would like to fight soon, he may have to wait until the end of the year.

This past Friday, Volkanovski ended up in an impromptu face off with Silva as The Fighting Nerds and City Kickboxing teams stared each other down.

Mauricio Ruffy also faced off with Dan Hooker

Also as part of the team vs team face off, surging lightweight contender Mauricio Ruffy faced off with longtime lightweight contender Dan Hooker.

Ruffy recently called out Benoit Saint-Denis as he looks to continue his ascent up the 155lb division, however, fans have continued to clamour for a fight between Ruffy and ‘Hangman’ Hooker.
