UFC 317 star instantly fired after coming in 10lbs overweight for International Fight Week clash

UFC 317 is down a fight after one of its stars was fired the day before his promotional debut.

Everything was fine as Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira hit their marks at the weigh-in on Friday.

However, the fight that was set to kick off the card has been scrapped after some last-minute drama.

As a result, a middleweight who was supposed to make his debut has been released by the UFC.

UFC 317 star fired after weight miss

UFC 317 was supposed to begin with a fight between 7-0 Christopher Ewert and 6-0 Jackson McVey, who was booked to face Sedriques Dumas until earlier this week.

A legal issue forced Dumas out, and Ewert took his place on the International Fight Week card.

Everything appeared normal when McVey weighed in at 185lbs, but Ewert never made it to the scale.

According to Dan Hellie on the official weigh-in show, Ewert was 10lbs overweight and therefore never weighed in.

UFC commentator Jon Anik subsequently announced that Ewert had been cut from the UFC roster.
