Jon Jones was the final fighter from the legendary 2011 era in the UFC and this past weekend he joined the other greats in retirement.
After a saga that lasted several months, this past Saturday Dana White finally announced that UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has officially retired from the sport.
And with that, British star Tom Aspinall was upgraded to the undisputed champion and soon after the announcement, he declared that he will get the division moving again, vowing to be an active champion.
Although the majority of the fanbase were happy to finally have some answers, Aspinall’s father criticized the UFC for announcing the news in the middle of the night following the event in Baku.

Jones responds to criticism about his UFC retirement
When Jones confirmed his retirement with a post on social media, it was hijacked by fans who continued to criticize him for ‘ducking’ a fight with Aspinall.
And although the heartfelt tributes poured in following Jones’ retirement, it was questioned by fellow GOAT Demetrious Johnson who is confused by ‘Bones’ decision to retire instead of fighting Aspinall.
Now a few days removed from his official retirement, the consensus greatest fighter of all time has responded to the criticism with a post online.
“I guess everybody else gets to retire, just not when you’re still dominating. Funny how that works. Forget personal goals, forget business ventures. Some folks really believe you should fight until they say you’ve had enough. Wild. Imagine thinking a grown man shouldn’t control his own destiny,” Jones said in a post of all of the UFC champions from 2011.
Jones makes cryptic post about ‘snakes’
Since his retirement, ‘Bones’ has had an extremely eventful past few days in the media and this past Tuesday, he made a cryptic post online about ‘snakes’.
“One thing we all know about snakes, you let them hang around long enough, it’s only a matter of time before you get bit. It’s good to be real with the people that’s known you for a long time, but sometimes it’s ok to outgrow people,” Jones said in a post on X.
It is unclear who Jones is talking about in his post, however, fans have been responding claiming that he could be talking about the UFC and Dana White.
