Jake Paul has obtained some huge paydays in his boxing career but this hasn’t always been the case.
He recently revealed that he spent his entire purse from fighting Mike Tyson on one thing with Paul making one of his dreams come true.
While there are still some huge fights on his horizon, with Paul having a six-man hit list that he wishes to pursue, he didn’t immediately achieve financial success in boxing.
‘The Problem Child’ is set to return to the ring on June 28 as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr looks to chase his own big name targets after getting his hand raised in Anaheim, California.
Paul revealed in a recent interview that even in some of his recent fights, the financial reward wasn’t a major motivating factor for him.
Jake Paul says he lost money in his early boxing fights after financially investing in himself heavily
In a recent interview on The Iced Coffee Hour, Jake Paul spoke about his meticulous approach to YouTube and how he carried that over into his boxing career.
The social media star invested heavily in himself to make sure that he was ticking every box imaginable in order to set himself up for success.
“All of these things would go behind the scenes and I take everything I do very, very seriously and I’m very competitive. So, when I went into boxing, it was no different than YouTube essentially. I’m going to have the best recovery, the best food, the best trainers. I’m going to do it every day like I do with YouTube.”
Of course, every athlete would do the same if they could but giving yourself the best possible foundations and support comes with a heavy price tag.

Paul stated that in some of his earlier fights, before his profile continued to rise and he started to attract even bigger opponents, fighting wasn’t cost-effective for him but he knew that the experience would be crucial to his further success.
“I was basically like losing money on fighting for the first couple of fights, just with all the money I was investing into it and the camps and the coaches and all that stuff. Even now, some fights you’ll take, you’re just like breaking even, like not every fight is a massive money fight. People just always like see that as the headlines and all these things.”
Paul even made reference to two of his most recent fights, wins over Ryan Bourland and Andre August, as examples of times where though he made money, the experience was far more valuable to him.
“I’m making money, but it’s like you’re doing it because I’m going to become world champion and I want to stay active.”

Jake Paul is completely dedicated to his boxing career and goals now that he’s more well known for being a fighter
While Jake Paul may have entered the boxing world as a social media star who was attempting to become a professional fighter, a lot has changed since his first pro fight in 2020.
Paul said during the podcast interview that he’s enjoying taking his time with his boxing career which has now become the thing that he’s most well known for.
If he can defeat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, the 28-year-old only plans on continuing to gradually take things to the next level.
“I can just actually focus on me and I’ve been boxing for five years, right? Which is already double the amount of time that I daily vlogged. So it is interesting that some people don’t even know that I was a YouTuber. Genuinely they haven’t even watched my videos but they’ve watched me fight. So I think I’m more known as a boxer now, which is pretty crazy but I definitely want to amp it up and do bigger fights and challenge myself and become world champion.”
