Alex Pereira provides staggering weight update as fans call for crazy fight against Tom Aspinall

Alex Pereira is seemingly enjoying his time away from the action as the UFC world continues to await news regarding his next fight.

Earlier this year, Alex Pereira‘s UFC light heavyweight title defense came to an end at the hands of Magomed Ankalaev who dominantly dethroned him in the UFC 313 main event.

Almost immediately after the event, it became clear that an immediate rematch would take place and negotiations began seemingly straightaway.

Despite that, talks between the two have dried up to the point that Ankalaev claimed Pereira won’t be returning and even gave him a deadline date to accept the rematch otherwise he will skip over him.

Alex Pereira provides staggering weight update

Although the Russian champion seemed adamant that Pereira wouldn’t be returning to the sport, ‘Poatan’ recently claimed that soon, people will be talking about his next fight, hinting at some news.

However, earlier this week, the 37-year-old provided a staggering weight update, making an imminent rematch against Ankalaev less likely.

In a video posted on his Instagram, the former UFC light heavyweight champion stepped onto the scale, showing that he currently weighs 243lbs.

“243lbs is a f—— big heavyweight size, bro. Heavyweight bro!” his coach said.

And with the Brazilian fan favorite currently weighing as much as a heavyweight, fans have started calling for him to officially move up in weight to take on the current interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.

Aspinall will likely be upgraded to the undisputed heavyweight champion in the next few weeks after Dana White provided an update on Jon Jones this past Tuesday, claiming they will move on from him as he continues to delay his return.

Fans call for Pereira vs Aspinall after Pereira weight update

With fans likely missing out on what would be one of the biggest fights in UFC history between Aspinall and Jon Jones, they are now turning their attention to a potential fight between the Brit and ‘Poatan’.

“If Jon is out, let’s cancel Pereira vs Ankalaev and do Aspinall vs Pereira,” Oscar Willis of the Mac Life stated on X.

“Been saying this from day one. No one cares about Alex vs Ankalaev rematch. It’s useless. Just move up,” another fan commented.

“Pereira gets smoked on the feet. Aspinall is so much faster. Whoever hits first most likely wins and Tom has a massive speed advantage. Speed kills,” a third fan predicted.

Although that would be a huge fight for the promotion, earlier this week, Aspinall revealed the two opponents that he has begun specifically training for and Pereira unfortunately isn’t one of them.
