‘Nothing changes’… Cody Garbrandt’s coach rejects retirement calls in supportive message after UFC Atlanta

Cody Garbrandt’s woes inside the UFC Octagon continued on Saturday night.

Garbrandt has struggled for consistency since winning the UFC bantamweight title as an undefeated fighter in 2016. And his latest setback came against a man outside the rankings.

Raoni Barcelos defeated Garbrandt at UFC Atlanta, earning the nod on all three scorecards after three rounds of action at State Farm Arena on June 14.

Another defeat 14 months on from a submission loss to Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 300 has left some advising Garbrandt to hang up his gloves.

One member of the 33-year-old’s team, however, sees those calls as premature.

Coach says Cody Garbrandt will bounce back from his latest loss at UFC Atlanta

Shortly after Garbrandt’s defeat at UFC Atlanta, coach Billy Bigelow reacted on social media.

He posted an image of Garbrandt’s corner team on Instagram alongside a supportive message for ‘No Love’.

While many seemingly see the loss as the final straw for Garbrandt in the UFC, Bigelow is confident that his fighter has what it takes to bounce back.

“Not our night in the office but nothing changes. @cody_nolove will be back,” he wrote. “Happy to be with my brothers. Back to work Monday.”

Cody Garbrandt is 3-7 since winning the UFC bantamweight title

The defeat against Barcelos means Garbrandt has lost seven of his 10 outings since unseating the legendary Dominick Cruz from the bantamweight throne in an all-time great title fight performance.

A three-fight losing skid followed, featuring Garbrandt’s two losses to arch nemesis TJ Dillashaw, and ‘No Love’ has so far failed to return to his best.

Victories over Raphael Assuncao, Trevin Jones, and Brian Kelleher threatened to serve as a springboard for Garbrandt, but he has stayed far from the title picture at 135 pounds following another two straight defeats.
