UFC flyweight contender Miranda Maverick could be sidelined for a while after her loss at UFC Atlanta.
Miranda Maverick‘s four-fight winning streak came to a disappointing end in a loss to former UFC champion Rose Namajunas in the UFC Atlanta co-main event. In a back-and-forth battle through three rounds, Namajunas defeated Maverick by unanimous decision to continue her ascent up the flyweight rankings.
Despite putting Namajunas in some brief trouble with a late-round submission attempt, Maverick wasn’t able to keep up her usually ferocious pace against the former champion. As the final horn marked the end of Round 3, Maverick struggled to return to her feet and limped back to her corner as her team awaited the official decision.
It turns out that Maverick suffered more than a loss at UFC Atlanta.

Miranda Maverick hints at long absence after injury suffered at UFC Atlanta
In a recent Instagram post, Maverick broke her social media silence while sharing a serious injury she suffered midway through her UFC Atlanta co-headliner.
“Not the result I wanted but I fought with what I had. My ACL was torn in the second round (I’ll have to rewatch to know exactly when but I think it was during a takedown exchange). I never got dropped, but I was unstable on my legs so as soon as I got hit in the third round my leg buckled,” Maverick said.
“I’m blessed I was able to make it to the end of the fight and I’m honored that I got to share the cage with the legend [Rose Namajunas] I’ll take this lay off in stride and you will see me again! But for now time to recover and figure some things out.
“Thank you to my coaches, training partners, managers, fans, and of course my family for being in my corner and always caring about me over the results! Thank you [UFC] for giving me an experience such as this.”
As of this writing, it’s uncertain how long Maverick will be sidelined due to her torn ACL. She’ll likely miss at least the rest of 2025, and potentially a huge chunk of 2026 as she moves full force into recovery.
Before falling to Namajunas at UFC Atlanta, Maverick earned recent wins over Jamey-Lyn Horth, Dione Barbosa, and Andrea Lee. She and Namajunas are former sparring partners, dating back to their time as teammates in Colorado.

Francis Ngannou called Kamaru Usman’s win ‘inspiring’ after UFC Atlanta
In the UFC Atlanta main event, former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman defeated Joaquin Buckley to get back into the division’s title mix. It was Usman’s first win since a UFC 268 victory over Colby Covington in their welterweight title rematch.
After UFC Atlanta, former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou called Usman’s performance ‘inspiring’ after Usman’s long road back to the win column. Ngannou accompanied Usman at the UFC Atlanta ceremonial weigh-in on Friday.
Usman called for a welterweight title shot after UFC Atlanta, dismissing Belal Muhammad’s social media callout. He and Muhammad have traded barbs for months.
