Chael Sonnen says Kamaru Usman might be greater than Georges St-Pierre
Chael Sonnen recently caught up with Kamaru Usman, claiming the icon, who fights Joaquin Buckley later tonight at UFC Atlanta, is in a spot where up-and-coming stars are looking to claim his scalp.
With the former King of the division held in a similar regard to Georges St-Pierre, ‘The American Gangster’ claims the warrior told him he wants to remind everybody of just how good he really is.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Sonnen explained: “I just spoke to Kamaru Usman. What an odd spot he’s found himself in. Kamaru has done everything multiple times over, that Buckley would like to do once.
“Buckley cracked, he started smiling, he was even like, ‘Oh my, it’s Kamaru Usman’. What does that do to Kamaru?
“Kamaru, are you going to be able to hurt this guy? Not do you have the skills to hurt this guy.
“Kamaru Usman is the only welterweight that you could argue was better than Georges St-Pierre and not lose credibility.
“He said, ‘Yes, I’m going to be able to hurt that guy. I’m going to be able to overlook that this is somebody who admired me, and I’m going to remind him as to why he looked up to me in the first place’.”
