Sean O’Malley once again fell short against Merab Dvalishvili, failing to reclaim his title at UFC 316.
This past Saturday at UFC 316 in Newark, New Jersey, Merab Dvalishvili handed Sean O’Malley his second loss in a row when he submitted the former champion in the third round of their rematch.
Shortly after the fight, O’Malley broke his silence on social media, apologizing to his fans for not reclaiming his bantamweight title after another tepid performance.
Ahead of the fight, ‘Suga’s’ fans were confident that the 30-year-old had made the adequate adjustments in his fight camp after giving up several vices, however, ‘The Machine’ dominated once again.

Tom Aspinall claims Sean O’Malley ‘didn’t want to be in there’ at UFC 316
Although O’Malley gave up several things ahead of his fight against the Georgian champion, he once again had absolutely nothing to offer against Dvalishvili.
The current UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall believes that O’Malley lost his will to be in the Octagon with ‘The Machine’ after the first few rounds.
“There’s definitely a debate for saying that (Dvalishvili) is potentially the bantamweight GOAT,” Aspinall said in a recent video on his YouTube channel.
“Merab looked absolutely unstoppable, just doing normal Merab stuff. Like staying on the outside, diving in with some crazy punches, 25 takedown attempts a round or whatever he’s doing, how do you fight a guy like that?
“For me, I just think after round two, in all honesty, Sean O’Malley just didn’t seem to really want to be in there, he just didn’t really seem to know what to do next… Sean O’Malley just didn’t want to know anymore,” Aspinall continued.
O’Malley called out by former double champion for retirement fight
‘Suga’ Sean is now in a position he has never been in during his career, having suffered back-to-back losses for the first time ever.
The former champion has had a long brewing feud with former double champion, Henry Cejudo, and following his loss at UFC 316, Cejudo has called him out for a retirement fight.
Despite that, at this point it is unclear what O’Malley’s next move will be considering the fact that he has been utterly dominated in his last two bantamweight outings.
