‘Most of you men’… Patchy Mix fires back at intense criticism of his UFC 316 debut defeat

Patchy Mix isn’t going to lie down and let his fighting abilities be dismissed after UFC 316.

One of the biggest storylines heading into the UFC 316 pay-per-view at Newark’s Prudential Center was the arrival of a highly touted former Bellator bantamweight champion.

After being granted his PFL release, Mix debuted against Mario Bautista, planning to make a statement to secure his quick path toward UFC title glory.

Things didn’t play out that way, however. Instead, Bautista comfortably beat Mix at UFC 316, marking a difficult start to his Octagon career.

The newcomer’s disappointing display has garnered plenty of criticism in the MMA community, and Mix recently responded to it in kind.

Patchy Mix hits back at UFC 316 haters in latest post-fight statement

After Mix’s initial statement on the UFC 316 loss saw him vow to bounce back stronger, he later posted a more fiery one taking aim at his detractors.

In a post on his Instagram Stories, the 31-year-old tried putting context behind the result by citing the short-notice nature of his UFC debut and the strong winning form of his opponent.

Mix also took a jab at his growing group of critics.

“Took the fight on 3 weeks notice against a guy who’s on an 8 fight win streak in the UFC,” Mix wrote

“I don’t hang my head. I’m proud to represent where I am from Angola/Buffalo.

“Most of you men that that think you could give an honest assessment could never relate…especially these wrestlers,” Mix added.

Interestingly, Mix’s attempt to put Bautista in high regard in his recent statement is far from how he spoke about his debut opponent during UFC 316 fight week.

In an episode of the UFC 316 Embedded: Vlog Series, Mix branded the No. 10-ranked bantamweight a “journeyman” whom he’d run through on fight night.

“I will f— him up,” Mix declared. “I’m a three-time world champion. This guy’s a journeyman fighter. I’ll submit him.

“And whoever’s teaching him jiu-jitsu, I’ll submit the whole crew.”

Mix ultimately didn’t come close to a submission at the Prudential Center, barely even attempting to initiate grappling during the three-round main card bout.
