‘Messed up’ … Mario Bautista reacts to post-fight interview snub and boos at UFC 316

It looks like the UFC world hasn’t forgiven Mario Bautista for beating Jose Aldo.

The top UFC bantamweight contender is the owner of the second-longest active winning streak in the division (8), only behind reigning champion Merab Dvalishvili (13). Mario Bautista improved to 10-2 in the UFC with a dominant decision win over Bellator champion Patchy Mix at UFC 316 on Saturday.

Despite beating Mix in an entertaining striking battle, Bautista went without his flowers in Newark, New Jersey. Bautista was booed by the audience, probably because he defeated beloved legend Jose Aldo in a controversial decision in his previous fight at UFC 307.

Out of 13 victors, Bautista admits it was ‘weird’ he was the only fighter to not be given a post-fight interview by Joe Rogan at UFC 316.

Mario Bautista says UFC ‘didn’t even give him a chance’ to cut a promo

Bautista spoke on his interview snub days after his win on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“A little bit [surprised],” Bautista said of being the only winner to not get interviewed at UFC 316.

“Afterwards, I was just thinking, man, I did everything…

“I did the exact opposite of what I did to Aldo. I held Aldo. Now, I fought Patchy, and I stood up with him the whole time and it still didn’t seem good enough.

“I don’t know if it’s a UFC thing. I don’t know if it was a [Donald] Trump time delay, whatever it was.

“It was a little bit weird,” Bautista added.

“Now that I think of it, I’m just thinking, man, that’s kinda messed up.

“Even if I wanted to cut a promo, they didn’t even give me the chance to do that.”

Mario Bautista on getting booed at UFC 316: ‘I can’t make any of these people happy’

The 31-year-old Bautista turned in one of the greatest performances of his career when he outboxed Mix for three rounds at UFC 316.

Bautista landed a career-best 173 punches on Mix, battering the face of the 20-1 Bellator bantamweight champion.

Still, Bautista was booed by the fans in New Jersey.

“I noticed it in the fight while I’m standing up with this guy the whole time, and they’re booing,” Bautista said.

“In my mind, I’m thinking, damn, I can’t make any of these people happy.

“Maybe they just didn’t wanna hear the boos afterwards,” Bautista said of why he didn’t get a post-fight interview with Rogan.
