Dana White plays down ‘silly’ petition to strip Jon Jones with 187,000 signatures

Dana White has shrugged off calls for Jon Jones to be stripped of his heavyweight title.

‘Bones’ hasn’t fought since knocking out Stipe Miocic to defend his belt at UFC 309 in November.

Since then, Dana White has been trying to convince him to fight interim champion Tom Aspinall.

Jon Jones‘ reluctance to take that matchup has infuriated fans, with over 187,000 people signing a petition calling for the UFC to strip him of his heavyweight championship.

Dana White dismisses Jon Jones petition

The greatest fighter of all time can rest assured that Dana White will not be stripping him anytime soon.

Following UFC 316, the MMA mogul discussed and dismissed fan calls for change at heavyweight.

“Yeah,” White said when asked if he’d seen the viral petition.

“Every human on Earth was DM’ing it to me.

“How many fans are there worldwide now, what’s the number?

“Like 400 million and 130,000 people want to see him stripped.

“It’s kind of f—— silly.”

Jon Jones ‘agreed’ to Tom Aspinall fight

Dana White remains confident that Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall will fight in 2025.

The UFC CEO was repeatedly probed by journalists, including Bloody Elbow’s Donagh Corby, about the biggest fight of the year post-event at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday night.

White insisted Jones ‘accepted the fight’ with Aspinall, despite his contradictory claims on social media.

“Jon Jones agreed to do the fight,” he said.

“Jon Jones was offered the deal and accepted the deal.”

White later clarified: “Jon agreed to fight Tom, yes.

“You guys have heard me for the last however long, I said, ‘I guarantee this fight is going to happen.’

“Yes, I’ve been saying Jon is gonna fight Tom.”
