Boxing star Devin Haney mocks Sean O’Malley with reference to his past crossover talk after UFC 316

Sean O’Malley’s haters were handed a good result in the UFC 316 main event.

‘Suga’ had his hopes of a second bantamweight title reign emphatically dashed at the Prudential Center in Newark on Saturday night.

O’Malley was submitted by Merab Dvalishvili in the UFC 316 main event, marking his second loss to the Georgian standout in the space of eight months.

Given his confident demeanor and often brash remarks, O’Malley has his fair share of enemies in MMA who were pleased to see him tap to ‘The Machine’ on June 7.

And even some in a different combat sports realm enjoyed what they saw.

Devin Haney takes joy in seeing Sean O’Malley badly beaten by Merab Dvalishvili

Among those reacting to the result of the UFC 316 headliner on social media was boxing star Devin Haney.

Haney, a former multi-time champion who held the undisputed lightweight championship and WBC super lightweight title, has had his fair share of back-and-forth with O’Malley in the past.

Like Kamaru Usman and Canelo Alvarez before them, they became the latest MMA and boxing pair to discuss a crossover clash, a kind not seen since Conor McGregor swapped the cage for the ring to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017.

O’Malley made some confident comments regarding his chances against Haney, and it would seem the 26-year-old boxing star hasn’t forgotten.

“Remember O’Malley was doing all that trolling?” Haney wrote on X shortly after O’Malley’s one-sided loss to Dvalishvili.

Some might say turnabout is fair play after O’Malley mocked Haney’s performance against Ryan Garcia in a social media video last year.

Sean O’Malley offered Devin Haney $1 million to fight him in MMA

Even after losing the bantamweight title at UFC 306 inside the Sphere last September, O’Malley was still firing shots at a leading name in the boxing world.

During an episode of his TimboSugarShow, the Montana native had some choice words for Haney, urging him to either accept a $1 million MMA fight offer or stop talking.

“Boxers are f—king p—ies, dude. Devin Haney’s a b—h, he’s such a b—h. If Devin Haney really wants to talk s—t, he really wants to fight, I’ll put $1 million, me vs him, no time limit and we can fight,” O’Malley said.

“MMA rules, just a fight or we can do no rules, so if you want to eye-poke me you can do a real f—king fight. If you want to talk s—t on Twitter, we can really actually fight, or just don’t talk s—t, one of the two.

“Either don’t talk s—t or let’s actually fight. I would even box, I wouldn’t put $1 million of my money up but I would box, just boxing rules to protect him, but he wouldn’t simply just fight me,” O’Malley added.

While O’Malley is coming off two title losses, Haney is also not having the best time of things competitively.

After his loss to Garcia, which was later overturned to a no contest, Haney made an underwhelming return to the ring by outpointing Jose Ramirez at the Times Square-held event in May.
