Jon Jones fires inaccurate shot at Tom Aspinall as he makes ‘undisputed’ jibe amid bitter UFC feud

Jon Jones has taken rare shots at Tom Aspinall on social media – but he appears to be a bit off with one piece of information.

Legendary two-weight UFC champion Jones appears to be moving away from the idea of returning to the octagon to fight Aspinall, despite major fan pressure. The Brit is interim heavyweight champion, but he has made as many defenses of his belt as Jones despite winning it months later.

Today, Jones arrived back in America from a lengthy trip abroad to film a reality TV show, and quickly took to social media to interact with fans. And he quickly took to slamming Aspinall with a series of messages.

Jon Jones makes inaccurate claim about Tom Aspinall in latest roast

Once he began to get into the weeds with fans on X, Jon Jones was almost instantly inundated with messages about his long-term feud with Tom Aspinall. He didn’t shy away, replying to a number of them before logging off for the night.

First, after he shared a stat about American UFC champions vs those from other nations, he mocked one fan who replied that Aspinall should be truly undisputed at 265lb. “That’s awesome, you guys could use one,” he wrote in response.

But his big claim came in reaction to a tweet that was almost immediately deleted. “Unfortunately, my boy is not as special as his fan base thinks he is right now,” he wrote. “I’ve seen Tom get tapped out twice now by two different people. Time will show. Here today gone tomorrow.”

This claim would indicate either secret footage that fans have yet to see, or inaccuracy on Jones’ part. Aspinall has suffered one defeat by submission; to Stuart Austin in BAMMA almost a decade ago to the day, but his other two defeats were by DQ and to a freak injury.

Jon Jones claims he has told UFC his plans ahead of Tom Aspinall fight

Jones has never seemed keen to commit to a fight with Aspinall, and insists that he is unsure about his fighting future. However, he did tell fans in a recent seminar that he has spoken to the UFC and informed them of their plans.

He intimated that due to legal issues, an announcement of any sort of fight will come from Dana White and not he or Aspinall. “The UFC, I, and Tom, we’ve all got a lot of stuff happening behind the scenes,” he told a fan who asked for the fight status.

“They’re one of the biggest organizations in sports. Right now, Tom and I have agreed to wait for the UFC to make their announcements. So, legally I can’t really talk about it.”
