Jon Jones has finally explained the true story of his one true defeat; a sparring session with a former UFC welterweight.
Legendary two-weight world champion Jones has a DQ loss on his professional record to Matt Hamill from December of 2009. In reality, though, that is widely considered a poor refereeing decision and the rule for which he was disqualified has since been changed.
There is, however, one story that has circulated for years of Jones being knocked out – albeit not in an official bout. And he has confirmed that it is true, even recalling the shot that put him down which echoed his latest heavyweight title win.
Jon Jones confirms he was knocked out by Adlan Amagov
Jon Jones has finally confirmed that he was, in fact, knocked out by Adlan Amagov when the pair sparred in Albuquerque over a decade ago. The story was initially told by legendary former welterweight interim champion Carlos Condit, who was also stopped by the same move.
So the story goes, Amagov arrived for an early sparring session one Tuesday and threw a thudding spinning back kick to drop Condit. Fast forward a few rounds, he had done the exact same to Jones, who has shown minimal signs of weakness in the octagon.
Jones recalled the story in a social media video shared by Home of Fight where he spoke to a friend of Amagov’s. “Adlan Amagov KO’d me, very true story,” he explained in broken English. “Spinning back kick, boom, me down.
“It’s okay, sometimes it happens. But next time… One day, Carlos Condit and me, Adlan, two people.”
Jon Jones and Adlan Amagov story has been circulating for a long time
Carlos Condit was the original man to tell the story of Jones being knocked out in sparring, telling Rampage Jackson on the Jaxxon Podcast what happened in the gym. It appears to be the only recorded story of Jones being stopped in any sort of fighting situation.
“He was a spinning back kick guy and he f—ed me up,” Condit recalled when asked if anyone in the gym had managed to get the better of Jones. “And then I think a round or two later, he hit Jon with that spinning back kick and he dropped him. Nah [he didn’t get kicked out], he stayed around,”
Interestingly, Jones would go on to implement that move into a number of his fights. Most famously, he used it to knock out Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November to fill
