‘I’ve got a date’… Tom Aspinall agrees to face new opponent after ‘retiring’ Jon Jones

Tom Aspinall claims he’s got a date and location for his return to the UFC Octagon.

The interim heavyweight titleholder hasn’t fought since knocking out Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 last July.

Since then, he’s been waiting for the chance to unify the division in a mega-fight with Jon Jones.

On Monday, Tom Aspinall claimed the other UFC heavyweight champion has ‘retired’ from MMA and paved the way for him to face someone else for undisputed status.

Tom Aspinall agrees to fight date and location

Tom Aspinall is ready to move on from his long-running saga with the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

The heavy-handed Englishman claims he’s got a date and location to fight another UFC contender.

“Guys, why are we still talking about Jon? He’s retired. He’s done,” Aspinall said on the Good Guy / Bad Guy podcast hosted by Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen.

“I said a long time ago, ‘I’m gonna retire Jon without even fighting him’. That’s what’s happened.”

Aspinall added: “You guys are gonna see really soon.

“This is exciting times for the heavyweight division. We get some movement. People are literally forgetting that heavyweights exist. Nobody has fought for so long, this is crazy. We’ve got a guy holding it up.

“That’s old news. The active heavyweight champion is here to fight them all, let’s get it on.

“I’ll tell you something. I’ve got a date and a location.”

Jon Jones excited fans with fight update

‘Bones’ recently answered fan questions after hosting the biggest seminar in Phuket’s history.

Jones excited fans with a cryptic response to a question about his potential fight with Aspinall.

“I was waiting for it,” he replied.

“The UFC, I, and Tom, we’ve all got a lot of stuff happening behind the scenes.

“They’re one of the biggest organizations in sports. Right now, Tom and I have agreed to wait for the UFC to make their announcements.

“So, legally I can’t really talk about it.”

Less than 24 hours later, Aspinall has suggested he will return to the Octagon against someone else.
